Hi!
You may not know me, but my name is Kathy
Hendershot-Hurd. I have a web development
company called
Virtual Impax. I’ve been working with
Rosemary to create marketing magic for small
business web sites for the past 6 years.
Rosemary
(pictured at left) and I are a great
team. See, Rosemary is a creative genius and
while I recognize good design, I have trouble
achieving it on my own. And trust me, good
design is ESSENTIAL to achieving marketing magic
for your small business web site.
Rosemary, on the other hand, is an aesthete: one
who cultivates great sensitivity to beauty.
Thanks to 6 years of working with her, I at
least know what I don't know and recognize how
important she is to creating small business web
site marketing magic. I once worked on a small
business web site
that when the graphics were improved, the client saw an increase
of 480% in sales. That's why Rosemary's
contributions are so important in my work of
creating marketing magic for small business web
sites. While the search engines can't see
the branding magic that Rosemary performs, the
visitor certainly can and, as illustrated above,
it makes a HUGE impact on whether or not your
web site creates marketing magic for your
small business.
I got an eyeful of bad design recently when I
got back the cover design for my first book,
Beyond the Niche: Essential Tools to Create
Marketing Messages that Deliver Results which was designed by my
publisher’s graphic artist. Fortunately, I have the
option of designing my own cover at my own
expense, so I‘ve happily hired Rosemary to do
her part to create marketing magic for my
upcoming book!
While Rosemary is a creative marketing genius, I’m great
at the web site coding necessary to create small business marketing
magic on the web. One of the most important factors in creating
small business web site marketing magic is
the coding. Your web
site's coding determines how the search engines
see and index your small business web site. And while Rosemary is a
creative genius and can create great visuals for small business web site marketing magic, talking
about coding and search engine optimization
makes her head hurt and ruins her mood for DAYS!
Now, you may wonder how good I am at creating
web site marketing magic for small businesses via SEO
(search engine optimization). After all, you’ve
probably never heard of me (even if I did the
coding for your site for Rosemary). If you search for
me or my business on
Google, you'll see that I come up first for
both my name and my business name. That's
good, but that really doesn't showcase my small
business web site marketing magic via SEO
skills.
See, most people don't search for
me or my business name and since it has a unique
spelling, I'm virtually assured a number one
position. That's "cheap" SEO. It
doesn't take any small business web site
marketing magic to get highly ranked on a
virtually unheard of search term or keyword. If
instead you were to search for Marketing or Web
Development or even Small Business Web Site
Marketing Magic, I won't come up first in your
search. The reason is that I haven’t optimized my “main” web
site for any frequently searched keywords. As a matter of fact, two years ago I coded
my web site so it couldn’t be
indexed. I did it on purpose because the second
most searched upon term for Web Design on the
web is FREE
web site design! UGH! Like I need to
deal with those inquiries all day long!
While I didn’t want to attract web site design
clients (I get enough of those through
referrals) I knew I needed to know how to
optimize web site pages for optimal web traffic.
So I created a site that lives INSIDE my Virtual
Impax web site called “A Dog for the Family.”
Here’s a screen shot from Google on how that
site does in the search engines.
Click on this image to have
it open full size in a new window so you can see
how it reads.

Yippee for me! I’m a top 10
result in almost ALL of my keywords for
the web site!
Since I’ve got a book coming out, you might
think I’m set. After all, I know how to optimize
a web site page to get a number one ranking on my
preferred search terms. In addition, I've
done everything a new author should do:
-
I
purchased a domain name (http://www.beyondnichemarketing.com)
last May.
-
I started a blog
on the site to promote the book.
-
I put a site map in written in xml on the site
so Google could index it.
Since Google
gets 47% of all search engine queries, and
drives up to 80% of search engine traffic, so I
want to be sure to pay attention to what THEY
like! Since I know all this, I’m set, right?
Unfortunately, the answer is
NO!
While I've used all my marketing magic skills
for my book's web site,
if you type
in http://www.beyondnichemarketing.com into
Google, here is what you'll see.

Despite all my marketing
magic skills, when it comes to creating small business web site
marketing magic for my new web site, it STILL
isn't indexed in Google..
While Google may have
revealed in their recent patent application the
key to ranking better, what isn't revealed is the
real key to
creating marketing magic for your small business
web site.
In a nutshell, Google won't
index new web sites.
It makes sense when you think about it.
Spam marketers love to put up a site, send spam
and collect money and then close the site
quickly once "the jig" is up! The only way
for Google to make certain they don't send you
to one of those sites is to eliminate those
sleaze balls.
As a result, when you launch your new web site, you’ll spend up to two
years confined to what SEO experts have dubbed
“the sandbox.” Think of it as paying your
web site dues.
However, even
after spending time in the sandbox, the struggle
won't end. You’ll still have to work like
crazy to create enough small business web site
marketing magic to compete with older, more established sites.
If you’ve got
a new web site, your only hope of creating ANY
small business web site marketing magic is:
. You can
expect to spend
hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars bidding
on key words and trying desperately to get
enough traffic to your web site to create small
business marketing magic with your web site.
Google knows that you need a way for people,
your potential clients to find you via the
search engines. So while the "sandbox"
keeps out the spammers, it also encourages you,
the web site owner to spend money with Google in
an effort to create small business marketing
magic for your web site. (Hey, Google's stock price isn't in the $400
range per share in the US because they're bad at business!)
How can I create Marketing
Magic for my Small Business Web Site?
Well, in my case, I decided
to leverage my main web site’s age to my
advantage. See, I launched Virtual Impax way
back on October 1999. Rosemary’s web site is
even older. She launched this site way back on
May 1999. Both of our websites are old and
wise from the Google spiders' point of view.
That's
important to keep in mind:
In order to get real "respect" from Google,
your site has to be "well established."
So to promote
my new book, I decided to “open” my web site to the
search engines. Remember when I said that I
consciously tanked my search engine visibility?
At
least I knew what I was doing. I also knew
how to "unlock" the door when I was ready to
create my own small business marketing magic.
It's important to note that even though I list
my new book's web site on my
client page, it still isn't helping to
create marketing magic for the new web site. I have
to do more if I want to create small business
marketing magic.
So because I have
an old and established site, I can easily direct
traffic to my new, and unknown "baby" web site
through a keyword rich page which promotes my book
and create my own small business marketing magic.
At this point, you may be saying, "That's fine
for you! How about my web site? What can I
do since I don't have a site that is 7 years
old!"
If you don’t have
a site that’s 7 years old, here's what you can
do.
As I was researching promotion ideas for my
book, I happened upon a
web page that offers marketing page hosting
as a form of small business marketing magic.
In
essence, you can pay this gentleman between
$100 and $500 a month to have your page included
on an old and well established site. He'll match
your site with one that is established and
in turns pays the owners of these sites a portion of that revenue.
Now that is truly small business marketing magic
for BOTH sides of the equation.
It’s a brilliant idea and I highly recommend his
service to you. However, there are two spoilers
for using his service:
- If you use his service,
you’d better be well versed in creating a web
page that can get a great ranking in the search
engines for key terms. (I recommend using
Word Tracker to find these keyword terms.)
- You'd better not care
what kind of content gets hosted on your site.
Yeah, Google will whack
your ranking if your links all come from "bad
neighbourhoods" so there is some risk to signing
up with him as a your marketing page hosting provider.
At this point, you may be
saying,
“Hey, I’m already listed on Rosemary’s Rave
page! That means I’ve already got this going on
for free!”
Well, not really.
(Sometimes, I feel like all I do is deliver bad
news!) Your link on
Rosemary’s Rave Page will help your web site.
(If you’re not linked, you should be. If
you're a client, be sure to send her a
testimonial so you can be.) The link on Rosemary's
rave page is considered an incoming link which
is ANOTHER factor Google looks for when
determining a page rank. So your link on the rave
page is good, but it won't create small business
marketing magic for your web site. It's
not designed to do so. It's not optimized
for keywords that you need for your business.
What's
a small business
web site owner to do?
I contacted Rosemary and wanted to submit her
site to the Presell Page Man. The age of her
site, the number of “backlinks” and her high
Google Page Rank for her three main web sites:
would command a pretty
penny. My educated guess would be that she could command
$200-$300 per page per month per web site.
It wouldn't take many of those to begin
generating a nice stream of passive income for
Rosemary.
But Rosemary said no.
See, if she were to list her pages with the
presell man, she couldn’t control the quality of
the pages that she hosted on her web site.
If you've had the
pleasure of working with Rosemary, you know
that's how she is. You also know she's
not shy about speaking her mind either.
However, her attitude changed when I pointed out how
much this could HELP
her existing clients. I told her how this could act
as small business marketing magic for people
who REALLY need it. Now THAT piqued her
interest. (One thing I love about
Rosemary is that she’s much more interested in
helping her clients to achieve small business
marketing magic than she is
about making money.)
So we came up with a compromise.
Rosemary has agreed to create and offer her own
hosted marketing page program. However, it’s going to take more than
money in your PayPal acount or a credit card
to put this small business
marketing magic to work for your business.
First, Rosemary will determine if she WANTS
to feature your content on her site. If your
site has been
brilliantly branded by her, then you’re already in.
If she hasn’t brilliantly branded you, then you
may need to hire her to do so.
NOTE: It's not a
requirement that Rosemary has performed her
"magic" on your behalf. If you don't know
Rosemary, you might think that would be the case
but trust me, she's not like that.
If Rosemary decides that you’re
“presell page worthy,” she’ll send you the costs
of the program and the options. If you
decide to proceed, she'll put me to work to
create a page with search engine optimized
content to be hosted on one or more of Rosemary’s
web sites.
I'm not going to go into the fees for the
service here and now. After all, there's
no point in telling you how much this will be
without knowing whether you're not “hosted
marketing page” worthy. However, I will tell you that if you search for SEO consultants, you’ll see
comments such as “We offer SEO consulting
services only for high profile Internet
companies with large sites” You'll also
notice that you don’t find prices
listed for the best ones. That's because the sticker shock
would kill a strong small business owner!
Even so called "SEO consultants" who CAN NOT point to a
single term where they’ve generated a top 10
keyword (let alone a site like I have shown you
above) will charge several thousands of dollars
JUST TO LOOK AT YOUR WEB SITE.
Remember, Rosemary won’t let me charge what
this process is “worth” so you really should
contact her, especially when you consider that
marketing page hosting alone on
Rosemary’s sites should cost
$300-$500 a month (and would if you purchased
the presell man’s package).
The question you need to
ask is:
What is a new client worth to
your coaching
practice?
If you charge $450 a month for
coaching and a client stays with you for 10
months, that’s $5400 worth of income from that
client! If that client refers just one other new
client, then that client's value would be
$10,800. ($5,400 X 2)
While I won't tell you the
price, but I will give you a hint: if you got just one new
client a year referred using a hosted marketing
page on all of Rosemary’s three
web sites, you would be getting a 300% return on
your investment!
Stock market traders get excited when a promising stock is going to
provide a 40% return!
Imagine the fuss over making a
300% return!
At this point, I would normally outline the
costs of the program. But in this case, I won’t.
because you REALLY DO have to be approved by
Rosemary first.
So if you're interested, the first step is to contact Rosemary . If she approves,
she’ll then send you the information on the program.
If you want access to other well established,
coaching sites, . I can’t promise you
they’ll take just anybody, but I'm confident
that they are less “stringent” in their entrance
requirements than Rosemary is.
Oh, and if you have an
old, established well indexed site, about turning your web site into a
passive income resource!
