Civilization in
the wilderness, a delightful
legacy of Colonial Africa.

▼ The
Men's Club in Durban.
Old money and old world elegance,
overlooking a vast, busy seaport. |

Timeless
serenity in Umfolozi, or was it Hluhluwe? A perfect spot for meditating - mindfully - after all this is
a game reserve!
|

December 25 - Relaxing at
a pristine
private waterfall in Masgoebaskloof,
my kind
of "white" (water) Christmas.
|
|

Umfolozi's
Mpila Camp - serene and peaceful, especially after 9:00 pm when the generator supplying power to the
chalets is shut
off!
We ate dinner in the dark and got ourselves to bed
with the aid of a penlight flashlight... a blessing as the tap water was brown and gritty
with dirt! (As we saw in the morning.) |
|
▼ Hiking in Heaven - the
falls drop down 10 meters here! |
Lord Tweedsmore's favourite and final
resting place. (Mpumalanga)
|
Cape Town's breathtakingly
beautiful and deadly shores.
Around the corner we found half
of an oil tanker, bleeding rust
onto the rocks that tore it in two.
|
|
▼ Stuck
in the mud (yep, really stuck)!
An underground spring rendered this road impassable. After we
broke through the "dry" surface it took two tractors to get us out! (Ficksburg, near the Lesotho border)

One
of the many Rhino we met at
Hluhluwe Game Reserve.
|
|

Gordon's Bay;
beauty and serenity,
just outside Cape Town.
|
|
▼ Kool
Baai - an amazing, undisturbed cliff lined beach near Cape Town
that provides a full sensory experience... The water refreshes, the view is
superb, the water and rocks play a natural symphony, (fortissimo)!

Matapos
National Park, Zimbabwe
We shared our braai, (BBQ) with a
Genet cat while the native black
Panthers roared in the bush, nearby...

tended garden blends
old world traditional plantings with

▼ Liane
and Rosemary at Hlahlanathi;
a jewel of a family resort in the
heart of the Drakensburg mountains.

The University
grounds in Stellenbosh.
How DO they focus on learning
amidst all this natural splendour?
|
|

December is
Jacaranda, Bougainvillea &
Frangi-Pangi season in Stellenbosh.
This town is a "Flora" lovers paradise!

Vendors

while passing through Botswana.

A favourite
mode of transport... |

Vervet
monkeys patiently await our dinner
in the Matapos Reserve,
Zimbabwe.
A chameleon becomes one
with the rocks at
Rhodes Memorial, Zimbabwe.
